World Kidney Day is a global campaign aimed at raising awareness of the importance of our kidneys.
This day happens once a year all across the globe! Hundreds of events take place to create awareness about preventive behaviors, risk factors, and how to live with kidney disease. This is a joint initiative that is taken on by the International Society of Nephrology and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations.
Their mission is to raise awareness of the important of kidneys and the overall health of them. To raise awareness to the fact that Kidney Diseases are known as silent killers.
They want people to know that diabetes and high blood pressure are key risk factors when it comes to Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). They heavily encourage that on World Kidney Day all governments should take action and invest in further kidney screening.
Each year, a new theme is created. Last year’s theme was “Kidney Health for Everyone, Everywhere- Living Well with Kidney Disease.” This year’s theme is “Kidney Health for All- Bridge the gap to better kidney care.”
There areseveral ways to reduce the risk of developing kidney disease.
It is important that you get your kidney functions checked if you have any of these high-risk factors:
