Hey folks,
Fall is in full swing, and if you’re anything like me, you’re soaking up the cooler weather with some outdoor activities. I love a good hike or a long walk through the woods, but if you’ve got neuropathy like I do, you know the struggle of finding shoes that don’t leave your feet feeling sore.
After some trial and error (and plenty of long walks!), I’ve found some solid footwear options for the season that keep me comfortable and pain-free. Let’s dive in!
When it comes to hitting the trails, I always go for trail sneakers. They’ve got that perfect mix of support, cushioning, and stability that my feet need when the ground gets uneven.
Look for ones with memory foam insoles and plenty of arch support—these features have been a game-changer for me. The best part? They don’t feel stiff, so I can move comfortably, even when the path is rocky or covered in leaves.
My personal recommendation: I wear the Merrell Moab 2 Ventilator sneakers—they’ve been fantastic for my hiking adventures and keep my feet happy!
When I’m not on the trails, I’m usually in a pair of supportive casual sneakers. They’re my go-to for everything from running errands to walking the dog. I like brands that focus on comfort and support—look for ones with soft, cushioned soles and a roomy toe box.
My personal recommendation: I wear the New Balance 990v5—they’re incredibly comfortable and give me the support I need throughout the day.
I’ll admit, I like a shoe that’s easy to slip on and go—especially when I’m heading out for a casual dinner or just hanging out on the back porch with my coffee. Slip-on loafers are perfect for this because they offer enough support without the hassle of laces.
My personal recommendation: I wear Skechers on-the-Go Moc loafers—they’re super comfy and perfect for a quick slip-on before heading out the door!
When I’m lounging at home, nothing beats a warm pair of lined moccasins. They’re perfect for keeping my feet warm without feeling restrictive. I go for ones with soft, supportive insoles and a little bit of grip on the bottom so I can move around the house without worrying about slipping.
My personal recommendation: I wear L.L. Bean Wicked Good Slippers—they’re like a hug for my feet, and I don’t want to take them off!
A couple of years back, I got custom orthotics, and they’ve been a lifesaver for me. These inserts fit perfectly into most of my shoes, giving me the right amount of support and cushioning.
I use them in my hiking boots, sneakers, and even my slip-ons. It’s an investment, but if you’ve got neuropathy, it’s one that’s absolutely worth it.
My personal recommendation: Check out your local podiatrist for a custom fit; they’ve worked wonders for me!
The right footwear is all about finding what works for your feet. With supportive and comfortable shoes, you can enjoy all the great things fall has to offer—from long hikes to pumpkin patch visits—without worrying about foot pain.
So lace up (or slip on) and get out there—let’s make the most of this season!
