How Can I Improve My Circulation in the Winter to Help with Neuropathy?

Hey there, friends,

Cold weather can be tough on everyone, but if you’re dealing with neuropathy, winter can feel downright brutal. ❄️ Numbness, tingling, and that frustrating burning sensation tend to show up even more when temperatures drop. Ever wonder why that happens?

Why Does Winter Make Circulation Worse? ❄️

First, let’s tackle the big question: why does winter mess with our circulation?

  1. Cold Causes Constriction: When it’s cold, your blood vessels constrict to keep your core warm. Great for survival, not so great for hands, feet, and legs where neuropathy likes to hang out.
  2. Less Activity: Be honest—do you move as much in winter? Hey, it happens. Fewer walks and more couch time mean slower blood flow.
  3. Dry Winter Air: Dehydration sneaks up on us in winter, thickening our blood and making circulation even harder.

Small Changes, Big Impact

Here’s the good stuff: improving circulation doesn’t require a full-blown lifestyle overhaul. A few tweaks can make a world of difference.

1. Get Moving, Even When It’s Cold 🏃‍♂️

I know—getting outside in the cold doesn’t sound fun. But movement is key.

  • Try 5–10 minutes of gentle stretching when you wake up. I call this my "coffee warm-up." ☕
  • Indoors? March in place during commercial breaks. Your heart and legs will thank you.

2. Warm Your Core 🔥

Here’s something I learned the hard way: if your core stays warm, your extremities stay warmer too. Layer up with thermal shirts, and don’t forget the heated blankets.

💡 I love those little hand warmers for quick heat fixes. Keep one in your pocket or tuck it under your feet while sitting!

3. Massage for the Win 💆‍♂️

A good massage boosts circulation, so don’t skimp on this. If a professional isn’t an option, use a foam roller or even a tennis ball to work out tight spots.

Oh, and don’t forget our Outback Oil Roll-On. That combo of Tea Tree Oil and Blue Mallee Eucalyptus works wonders.

4. Spice Things Up 🌶️

Literally. Cayenne pepper, ginger, and turmeric are my winter MVPs. They naturally improve circulation and add some zing to your meals.

5. Hydrate Like It’s Summer 💧

Cold air dries you out faster than you think. Warm water with lemon has been my go-to lately—it’s comforting and keeps the blood flowing.

💡 Swap sugary cocoa for herbal teas loaded with circulation-boosting ingredients like cinnamon or ginger.

6. Elevate Those Legs 🦵

Spending time with your feet propped up helps blood flow back to your heart. Perfect excuse for a mid-day lounge, right?

7. Compression Socks: Not Just for Airplanes 🧦

I resisted these for years. But now? Game-changer. They keep my legs warm and improve circulation at the same time.

Don’t Forget to Listen to Your Body 💬

Winter can make neuropathy feel relentless, but don’t ignore persistent or worsening symptoms. If something feels off, it’s always worth checking in with your doctor.
